“Woe to the man who chases his dreams only to find out he was chasing the wrong dream.”
That quote hit me years ago—and it applies perfectly to health and fitness.
Like many people, I originally started this journey chasing aesthetics. I wanted to look better. And honestly, I wanted to impress my now-wife of almost 35 years!
But over time, I realized something crucial:
When we chase aesthetics, we often make bad decisions.
We overreact to the scale. We starve ourselves. We overtrain.
We “punish” ourselves after a rough weekend.
And ironically, we end up further from the health and body we wanted in the first place.
The real turning point came when I stopped obsessing over the number and started focusing on feeling good. Moving well. Lifting strong. Sleeping better. Reducing inflammation. Showing up for my family.
When we prioritize health, everything else improves:
Mobility. Energy. Strength. Joy.
And yes—how we look.
It just makes so much sense:
If we feel better and move better, we’ll move more—and almost inadvertently drive ourselves toward those aesthetic goals.
I’m not saying you shouldn’t want to look good. Heck, I still dream of getting a standing ovation from my wife when I crawl into bed! 🤷🏻♂️🤣
But let the foundation be vitality, strength, and well-being—not just the mirror or scale.
Chase health… and the aesthetics will follow. 💪🏼
