A client asked me this week:
“My doctor recommended creatine. I know you don’t really push supplements… what’s your take?”
Here’s my honest answer.
Yes — creatine is well researched. It can help with strength, muscle retention, recovery, and even brain health.
But that’s not the real conversation.
Because too many people are looking for a shortcut before they’ve built the foundation.
Let me say this clearly:
No supplement will ever outperform
lifting weights,
eating mostly whole foods,
moving your body daily,
sleeping well,
and being consistent.
Supplements are meant to support a solid program — not be the program.
I look at them in two categories:
✅ Filling a deficiency
If bloodwork shows low Vitamin D, iron, or another nutrient — supplementation makes sense.
🚫 Magic solutions
Fat burners. Detox drinks. The latest social media miracle.
No one is walking around deficient in those.
Here’s what I see all the time…
People spending money on powders while skipping workouts.
Buying pills while ignoring nutrition.
Searching for optimization without first building habits.
Do the big rocks first.
Lift weights.
Walk more.
Eat real food.
Repeat that for a year.
Then — and only then — worry about upgrades.
Funny thing is, once your health foundation is strong… supplements actually work better anyway.
Most people don’t need another supplement.
They need more consistency.
Build the machine first.
Then add horsepower. 💪🏼🔥
