This topic has come up a few times this week, so I wanted to share some thoughts.
Eating out is not the same as preparing your own food—sorry!
A couple of quick examples:
🍽️ At steakhouses, they often sneak a giant dollop of butter between your plate and the steak.
🍔 A homemade burger (like mine) is about ½ lb of meat and ~600 calories. At Red Robin? Good luck finding a burger under 1,000 calories—before you even touch the bottomless fries!
(The typical Red Robin hamburger, just one serving of fries, and two beers? About 2,000 calories! 😳)
If you’re following your nutrition and training plan but feel stuck, take a closer look at how often you’re eating food you didn’t make yourself.
For me, I keep it simple: one meal per week is one I don’t cook. On Friday, Melissa and I had a date night with dear friends at a fantastic Central PA restaurant—perfect evening. But I also knew that meant I wanted to crush my nutrition plan every day leading up to it.
So, how do you make that happen? Be prepared!
✅ Proteins are cooked and in the fridge.
✅ Both white and brown rice are ready to go.
✅ Backup plan? A couple of cans of tuna, just in case.
There are always things pulling us away from our goals—including our health and fitness goals. But a little planning goes a long way.
Take a few minutes today to check your schedule:
🔹 Where are the upcoming challenges?
🔹 Where do you need to be more prepared?
🔹 Where can you crush it?
And remember, this isn’t about being perfect—it’s about making better choices, one meal at a time.
How often do you eat out vs. cooking at home? Have you noticed a difference in how you feel?
Let me know if you want to chat about this in more detail. Happy to help! 💪🏼
