Mindset Monday: The Sweet Truth (Just in Time for the Holidays)

As we head into the season of cookies, parties, and “just one more bite,” I keep seeing the same question pop up online: “How do I cut back on sugar?” 

A friend recently asked this on Facebook, and I skimmed the answers. Most were well-intentioned… but honestly? They read like hacks pulled from a late-night Google search.

Here’s the thing: not everything you read online is worth trusting. Your health deserves more than shortcuts. It deserves real guidance from someone who actually lives this lifestyle.

So let’s talk about what actually works—simple, actionable steps that help you get ahead of the holiday sugar avalanche.

Start with protein. Aim for roughly one gram per pound of bodyweight. It’s the most filling macronutrient, and keeping yourself satisfied goes a long way toward reducing cravings.

Eat at or near maintenance. When you’re underfed, cravings spike. If you’re not sure how to calculate your maintenance calories, reach out—I’m happy to help.

Limit processed foods. They’re literally engineered to make you hungrier. Swap them out and you’ll feel fuller, faster.

Sleep well and manage stress. These two run the whole show. Poor sleep increases stress. More stress increases hunger. Hunger drives cravings. Break that cycle and everything gets easier.

At the end of the day, getting sugar cravings under control isn’t about hacks—it’s about reducing stress on your body and giving it what it truly needs. Will these steps eliminate cravings entirely? Maybe not. But they will put you in a far stronger position heading into the holidays.
