Some “NEAT” and Easy Ways to Boost Your Metabolism!

You may have experienced this yourself – or you may be even experiencing it right now. I had someone come to me expressing the concern that their fat loss had stopped. It really seems like they were doing everything right - their weight training was on point, their nutrition was dialed in, they’re doing their cardiovascular training, etc. etc. and everything seemed dialed in.

In comes NEAT - non-exercise activity thermogenesis.

I know that sounds real fancy but all it is is the activities that we perform, and the calories that we burn, on a daily basis just by “being”. Whether it’s walking to the car, or going from your car to work, we’re going to the grocery store, or picking up the dry cleaning, or going to the movies, all of those activities add up and all of those activities burn calories.
Frankly, it is not a massive amount of calories, but it is a very important source of calories burned.
It’s important that we get our bodies up and get our bodies moving on a regular basis. Our bodies react differently to this type of activity as opposed to cardiovascular training, and yet, as I stated, it is very important.

It seems like with so many people working from home, people being even more locked in to their computers at their desk, not going out as often, not being as social as often, our “steps per day” have taken a massive decline.

My suggestion: double down on your daily activities. Make sure you take a walk. Make sure you get up from your computer and move around. It doesn’t have to be some long process – I’m talking about minutes or steps at a time. Get up and move the body. One other suggestion that could have a doubling positive affect – drink more water. Water is so important to get those fat cells moving, remain hydrated, plus you’ll be taking extra steps to the bathroom. WIN WIN!
