Happy Mindset Monday! 😎
As summer winds down and Melissa and I prepare for our long-awaited beach vacation, I’ve been reflecting on the balance between sunshine and sunburn. A little sunshine can brighten your mood, boost your immune system, and enhance overall well-being. But as we all know, too much can leave you with a painful burn, ruin your trip, and even send you to the hospital.
Your workouts are exactly the same way!
Not working out is detrimental to your health. The right amount of exercise is the fast track to your health and fitness goals. But working out too much can leave you frustrated, spinning your wheels, and even sick. It doesn’t take much to disrupt your hormonal balance and steer you further away from your goals.
So, what’s the right amount of training?
For most people focused on weight loss or body composition, I recommend three weight training sessions per week, plus 8,000–10,000 steps per day to support both physical and mental health. And don’t forget great nutrition—most of the year should be spent eating at a maintenance level, not in a calorie deficit, even if weight loss is your goal.
Just like with sunshine, it’s better to err on the side of too little exercise rather than too much.
In sticking with my analogy… too many Boot Camp-style classes per week is sunburn.
Both under-eating and too much cardio are like getting a bad sunburn.
Stacking up hours or days of excessive sun exposure—or overdoing it with cardio, under-eating, under-sleeping, and too much stress—can lead to a vacation-ruining sunburn that’s tough to recover from.
The right BALANCE of exercise and nutrition will put you on the fast track to your health and fitness goals and lead to the wellness needed to fully enjoy this wonderful life! 💪🏼
