“I’m not losing weight anymore! I hit a plateau. I’m broken!”
No, you’re not broken. In fact, your body is doing exactly what it was designed to do—adapt.
Let’s break it down: In order to lose weight, you must be in a calorie deficit. There’s no magic trick, no secret formula. Every diet, no matter how trendy, works because it reduces calories. But here’s the catch—your body hates losing weight. It’s wired for survival, and when you consistently eat less, your body adjusts by becoming more efficient with fewer calories. It also burns muscle (your metabolic powerhouse) to make it easier to function on reduced energy. That’s why you hit a plateau.
But My Diet is Different… Right?
Nope. Every diet works by cutting calories:
✅ Keto? You eat less by eliminating an entire macro group (carbs). Your body adapts.
✅ Intermittent fasting? A shorter eating window means fewer meals. Your body adapts.
✅ Gastric bypass? A smaller stomach = less food. Your body adapts.
✅ Ozempic/GLP1? You’re eating less because you don’t feel as hungry. Your body adapts.
✅ Fat loss supplements? Appetite suppression = fewer calories. Your body adapts.
✅ White knuckling it? Sure, you can just eat less… until your body adapts.
And then what? Drop your calories even lower? I see people eating 1200 calories (or less!) and still not losing weight. That’s because their body has become incredibly efficient at surviving on very little fuel. But at what cost? Low energy, suppressed immune function, and hormonal imbalances.
