All of these facets - Training, Nutrition, Cardio, Rest and Recovery - need to work together. This is what I call a “Synergistic Plan”.
I was talking to a gentleman the other day and he informed me that he’s using a personal trainer. I think that’s fantastic and absolutely applaud anyone that is taking control of their health and fitness. He went on to tell me that he is also utilizing a nutritionist. Again… Fantastic and should be loudly applauded.
However, he then informed me that his personal trainer and his nutritionist do not speak or communicate with one another. This is just a little bit hard for me to understand as I don’t see how a nutrition program could be put together if it’s not supportive of the client’s goals, lifestyle, AND training needs.
That conversation led me to this video.
To best meet your goals, I recommend a “synergistic plan” that would or could (depending on your goals) encompass the following:
- Nutrition
- Weight training - which could include, but not limited to the following:
- Progressive Resistance Training
- CrossFit*
- Boot Camp-style*
- Metabolic Conditioning*
- Cluster Training*
- Cardio - which could include, but not limited to the following:
- Walking
- Steady State Cardio
- HIIT
- Plyo
- Rest and Recovery
(*by the way, I consider several of these to be BOTH weight training, as well as cardio intensive.)
